Event Description

The Christmas party at the Stahlbaum house is in full celebration around the beautiful tree, and all of the friends of Clara and Fritz are delighted by the arrival of godfather Drosselmeyer, the toy maker. Fritz however, is quite jealous when the mysterious visitor gives his sister a beautiful Nutcracker doll which brings her great joy. As Clara falls asleep Christmas Eve, she is holding her precious Nutcracker in her arms. At midnight, suddenly the room begins to fill with an army of mice, drawing the Nutcracker and his toy soldiers into battle. After defeating the mighty Mouse King, the Nutcracker is restored to his life as a handsome Prince, who falls in love with beautiful Clara. First they travel through the Land of Snow, swirling with exquisite dancing Snowflakes, and then to the Land of Sweets where the Sugar Plum Fairy hosts a magical holiday of treats with grand entertainment.

Ballet Bellevue performs this holiday favorite on Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend, complete with the company's live orchestra playing the classic music of P. I. Tchaikovsky, conducted by Music Director, Philip Tschopp. Guest Director is Stanko Milov, former principal dancer of Pacific Northwest Ballet, who offers his premiere production of The Nutcracker with choreography and staging by Vitaliy Milov. Designers include Evan Ritter (Lighting), Tina Evans (Costumes), Melissa Russell (Graphics) and Stage Manager is Gordon Compton.

Mireya Mascarello of Ballet Bellevue dances the lead role of Clara with guest Cavalier, Christopher Scruggs, of the Alberta Ballet. Christina Stockdale returns to Ballet Bellevue to perform the solo roles of Dew Drop and Arabian, and the "French" duet is danced by Julie Ortiz and Nathan Cook. Children's roles are performed by Ballet Petit, the company's student performance division, with the Child Clara being performed by Sofia Soderberg.

The performances will be held on Saturday November 29th (2 PM and 7 PM) and Sunday November 30th (2 PM) in Bellevue's largest theater, the newly remodeled Bellevue High School Performing Arts Center at 10416 Wolverine Way, Bellevue 98004.
