Crossroads Shopping Center recently announced that construction has begun on an 11,000 square foot expansion of Edgeworks Climbing Bellevue's existing facility. The new expansion, located on the south side of Edgeworks' current space, aims to incorporate distinctive exterior design elements that will foster a more vibrant and inviting environment for the local Bellevue community.

The expanded space will feature impressive 45-foot climbing walls and add 49 additional lines for top rope and lead climbing.

Alongside the expansion, Edgeworks will undergo a remodel of approximately 33,000 square feet within their current space. The goal is to enhance the climbing experience for visitors. The remodel will introduce new amenities such as expanded locker rooms with saunas, a yoga room, updated offices, an upgraded front desk and retail areas, and a second-floor mezzanine with a training area equipped with Kilter boards, training boards, a campus board, and views of the new climbing walls.

To bring this project to life, a team of professionals has been assembled, including MG2 as the architect, Foushée and Associates as the general contractor, DCI as the structural engineer, KPFF as the civil engineer, and E/P USA as the designer and builder of the climbing walls and surfaces.

Mark Taylor AIA, LEED AP, Principal at MG2, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "We are thrilled to work with ROIC and Edgeworks to expand the gym and enhance services for the region's climbing community. The expansion not only raises the bar for area climbing enthusiasts but also brings a new level of health and wellness to Crossroads." Taylor also noted the unique opportunity presented by designing an interior space that reaches an impressive height of 45 feet.

Back in October 2020, Edgeworks Climbing + Fitness added a third location to its portfolio by acquiring Stone Gardens and establishing a presence at Crossroads Bellevue. This recent expansion solidifies Edgeworks' position as the largest single footprint of climbing gyms in the Puget Sound region. Owner and President of Edgeworks Climbing, Tod Bloxham, emphasized their commitment to providing customers and employees with a comprehensive range of high-quality facilities and experiences encompassing climbing, fitness, instruction, guiding, and fostering a strong community spirit.

Stuart Tanz, CEO of Retail Opportunity Investments Corp. (ROIC), which owns and operates Crossroads Shopping Center, acknowledged the importance of Edgeworks in creating a unique and engaging venue for the Bellevue community.

In addition to one of the premier rock-climbing gyms in the Pacific Northwest, Crossroads Shopping Center is also home to a vibrant mix of retail shops and services, 30 international restaurants, a performance stage featuring live music and entertainment weekly, an 8-screen cinema, a public library, 185 units of senior housing, the Bellevue Mini City Hall, a Farmers Market and other community events, and much more.
