The Ariel Pocock Trio with Ariel on Piano and Vocals, Forrest Giberson on Bass and Paul Miranda on Drums played a sold-out performance in downtown Bellevue on Tuesday, February 9. The live jazz concert was presented by the Eastside Jazz Club in the showroom of Sherman Clay Pianos.
A junior at Bellevue's Newport High School, 17 year-old singer and jazz pianist Ariel Pocock already has a long list of extraordinary accomplishments to her credit. While still in Middle School Ariel won both the Downbeat Magazine competition for outstanding solo pianist and the Lionel Hampton International Festival, where she had a chance to play with Wally Gator Watson and Christian Fabian.
Last year Ariel and her jazz band from Newport High School traveled to Lincoln Center in New York City for the Essentially Ellington Festival and Competition, where Ariel won both outstanding pianist award as well as the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation Outstanding Vocalist Award, which was last presented ten years ago to Sara Gazarek. Ariel studies with Michael Stegner, plays with the jazz bands of both Newport High School and Bellevue College, and has also had a chance to work with jazz greats such as Benny Green, George Cables, Gary Versace, Martin Wind, Wycliffe Gordon, Lew Soloff, Greta Matassa and others.
