Event Description

Join sculptor Jai Sallay-Carrington for a tour and conversation of Strange Weather: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation. Select works from the exhibition will be presented from Jai’s perspective as a LGBTQIA+ identifying artist.

Jai Sallay-Carrington, originally from Vancouver, BC, is a sculptural ceramic artist whose work is deeply influenced by their queer and non-binary identity. In 2014 they graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in ceramics. Jai has traveled throughout Canada, USA and Europe, participating in artist residencies such as C.R.E.T.A Rome, the Torpedo Factory Art Centre, and Tolne Gjæstgivergaard. They have contributed to group exhibitions at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Henry Art Gallery, and the Clay Center of New Orleans. Recent solo exhibitions have included NuQueer Power at Fatale Art Gallery, Co(R)vid Calluses at Galerie ERGA, and Adapting at Maison de la Culture Côte-des-Neiges. Their work has been featured in CBC Exhibitionists, New York’s ArtTour International Magazine, and Ceramique: 90 Artistes Contemporarian, and Jai has been awarded grants from the Canada Council of the Arts, SODEC, and was a finalist for the Winifred Shantz Award in 2020 and 2021. Jai recently completed their master’s degree at the University of Washington, receiving the De Cillia Graduating with Excellence award.
