With last Friday's good weather, we hit the streets taking pictures of downtown Bellevue. On our walk we spotted a gigantic hole on the ground with heavy excavation being done on 106th Avenue NE at NE 2nd Street. What can they be building now...look at all those empty units in the distance at Bellevue Towers, we wondered.

The building is the first phase of a project Bellevue-based Su Development calls Soma Towers. The second 18-story tower tower will have 124 more apartments, another 15,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and underground parking for 197 vehicles.
Su Development has been a major developer in downtown Bellevue. With the completion of the Soma Towers in 2016--first tower is scheduled for completion in spring 2014 and the second tower in 2016--it will be the fourth apartment projects in downtown Bellevue for Su Development. Its previous apartment projects included Elements Apartment Homes (989 Elements and Elements Too) and soma, an 8-story apartment complex on Main Street that opened in 2011.
Do you think Soma Towers' groundbreaking is another affirmation of downtown Bellevue's livability? When complete, Soma Towers will have some 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space in the first tower and another 15,000 square feet in the second tower. What restaurants and shops do you want to see at the new Towers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
